It’s a different world: fast paced learning style; Socratic Method; voluminous reading; complex procedural, technical and substantive analysis; intense writing; and logical argumentation. The first year of law school is the most critical of the three year undertaking. That’s where the Charles Hamilton Houston Pre-Law Program comes into play. We prepare our students for the rigorous comprehensive first year study of law.
CHH, now in its 42nd year, has been recognized both the Washington and National Bar Associations for its unique and engaging preparation of students, as well as the commemoration of the life and work of Charles Hamilton Houston. Its graduates have attended more than 50 different law schools throughout the nation including Howard, Georgetown, George Washington, Temple, American, University of Maryland, The University of the District of Columbia, William and Mary, Columbia, Fordham, University of Virginia, UCLA, Harvard,, University of Pennsylvania, Texas Southern, University of Florida, Florida A & M, Tulane, Vanderbilt, and the University of Chicago.
The CHH course design and model provide students an intellectual and practical introduction to the study of law, with an emphasis on accelerated learning techniques in legal reading, case and legal analysis, exam taking, and appellate advocacy. By the conclusion of the program, students will have written a legal memorandum, taken three law school examinations, written and argued an appellate brief, and developed a network of fellow law students, CHH alumni, and supporting lawyers and judges, all prior to starting law school.
